“Regardless of how long I live, theses flowers will never die”
Poppies often represent eternal slumber, due to its use in the creation of opium. When we enter our place of eternal rest, these flowers will live long enough to see the world move on. Decorating the vase is a vast night sky, to further emphasize its home is in a place of rest. Natural flowers are temporary, as such their message fades till it is a distant memory. Enameled flowers will never wilt and their message will never be lost.
As an artist working across multiple mediums, I often find myself focusing on the practicality of an art piece, but these pieces work to embrace the beauty found in nature while also acknowledging its sorrow. The life we live is one part of a much larger cycle, and everything you come in contact with also plays its part. We were born from nature and when we pass on we will return to nature and give back to the world that has provided for us. The concept of “memento mori” plays a large part of my concept process by reflecting on one’s mortality and remembering to live our lives to the fullest.
