“Life, Death, and Decay”
Our world lives in a constant cycle of balance. When experiencing periods of stagnant growth, that is often when the brightest fires occur. From the soot and ash left behind, life takes root again, and new growth finally emerges. Decay is my reminder that life lives on regardless of the circumstances and try our best to forge our own path through the underbrush.
As an artist working across multiple mediums, I often find myself focusing on the practicality of an art piece, but these pieces work to embrace the beauty found in nature while also acknowledging its sorrow. The life we live is one part of a much larger cycle, and everything you come in contact with also plays its part. We were born from nature and when we pass on we will return to nature and give back to the world that has provided for us. The concept of “memento mori” plays a large part of my concept process by reflecting on one’s mortality and remembering to live our lives to the fullest.
